NCAAB Odds: Michigan St -1.5
Game Time: 7:00pm EST, Friday Nov 11th
The 2016-17 College Basketball season tips off Friday with the Armed Forces Classic in Stan Sheriff Center, Honolulu, Hawaii. This tournament features four of the top programs in NCAAB, Indiana, Kansas, Arizona and Michigan State. To tipi off the college basketball season we are providing a detailed pick and prediction for the #10 Arizona Wildcats battle the #12 Michigan State Spartans below.
This is the sixth all-time meeting between the schools and the fifth straight meeting where both teams are ranked. Arizona holds a 3-2 advantage in the series, though Michigan State won the last two matchups. Arizona finished tied for third in the Pac-12 last season after going 12-6 in conference play and 25-9 overall. The Wildcats were a #6 seed in the South Region of the NCAA Tournament last season but couldn’t get out of the opening round. Arizona was knocked off 65-55 by 11th seeded Wichita State, ending their season. Allonzo Trier averaged 14.8 PPG last season as a freshman but his eligibility is in question. Head coach Sean Miller will have to do more with less considering the limited amount of players available to play. Reports have indicated that Trier did not make the trip to Honolulu. Kadeem Allen (8.4 points, 3.6 assists per game) is the team’s leading returning scorer and he will need to pick up the slack and help lead this team early on in the season.
Unlike other big time programs, Michigan State lost their top talent to the draft or graduation including Denzel Valentie, Bryan Forbes and Matt Costello. The Spartans were second in the Big Ten last season with a 13-5 mark in conference play and a 29-6 overall mark for coach Tom Izzo. Michigan State earned a #2 seed in the NCAA Tournament but ended up being one of the biggest upsets in history. The Spartans fell in the opening round to 15th seeded Middle Tennessee 90-81. Eron Harris (9.3 points) is the team’s leading returning scorer from last season. Harris transferred in from West Virginia after the 2014 season and as a sophomore he averaged 17.2 PPG for the Mountaineers. This should be his season to step up big and lead this Spartans team and guide the freshman early on in the season.

Arizona vs Michigan St. College Basketball Pick
Early on in the season it can be tough to predict how freshman will play in their first taste of the spotlight. However, this game will be one of attrition. Arizona has limited depth and condition will be a factor as the game wears on. Both teams will rely on freshman but in this matchup, the Spartans may have a deeper bench and more talent on the court. This is why I am taking the Spartans -1.5 over the Wildcats.
Arizona vs Michigan St. College Basketball Pick: MSU -1.5
