The Arizona Cardinals were pegged to compete for the NFC title and had Super Bowl aspirations but now they are simply playing stay relevant in the NFC West. San Francisco is hoping to snap a 3 game losing streak after suffering a home loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Josh Gilcrest of Top NFL Handicappers issues his Cardinals vs 49ers Free NFL Total Pick and prediction below.
Arizona was upset by the LA Rams last week at home and they now have to face the possibility that starting QB Carson Palmer went down with a concussion. There is a strong possibility that the Cardinals will have to sit Palmer and start backup Drew Stanton. It was a rough outing for Stanton on Sunday, throwing two interceptions in his five minutes of play against the Rams. Stanton has thrown 12 touchdown with 16 interceptions in his career, so the Cardinals will rely on the running game in this matchup if Palmer doesn’t play. The Cardinals have been good on defense, as expected, currently ranking 8th in the NFL allowing 20 PPG and giving up 313 YPG and they do have 11 sacks on the season. This defense will need to step up big time to carry the offense.
The 49ers lack the offensive weapons to truly compete in the 2016 season and Blaine Gabbert has played mediocre throwing for 827 yards with four touchdowns and four interceptions through four games. The San Francisco 49ers ground game is averaging 114 yards per contest, and Carlos Hyde leads the way with 299 yards and five touchdowns. Defensively, San Francisco is allowing 26.8 points and 390 yards per game which ranks them 23rd in the NFL. To make matters worse for the 49ers, top defensive player NaVorro Bowman went down with an Achilles injury, and it is looking like he could be done for the year with a torn Achilles. This is devastating news for the San Francisco defense as they will be without their leader
