Dolphins vs Cowboys NFL Preseason Prediction, 8-19-2016
Austin Clark of Precision Picks provides his Dolphins vs Cowboys NFL Preseason Prediction
Miami won their preseason opener 27-10 at the New York Giants in the NFL head coaching debut of Miami’s Adam Gase. Back up QB Matt Moore saw plenty of action and was 10-for-14 for 122 yards with a TD and a pick. Starting QB Ryan Tannehill will probably see more action tonight.
Miami’s defense was supposed to be a focal point of this team in 2015 but the defense finished 19th in Total Defense last season. The Dolphins run defense was a weak point vs. New York as the Giants rushed rush for 158 yards, an average of 4.9 yards per carry. The Dolphins expect to play more starters tonight and look to improve upon stopping the run and possibly the Cowboys 1st round draft pick.
Ezekiel Elliot was selected 4th overall by the Cowboys but has been dealing with hamstring issues this preseason. Dallas hopes to get him on the field and get him some reps vs the Dolphins. Elliot was the top RB in this year’s draft and many Cowboys fans are hoping he is the second coming of Emmitt Smith.
The Dallas Cowboys look to rebound after losing to the Los Angeles Rams in their preseason opener, 28-24. Dak Prescott led the way with 139 passing yards and two touchdowns. Tony Romo is likely going to see playing time here after sitting out in the loss.
Dallas is one of the clear favorites coming out of the NFC East as long as they can stay healthy, a problem they have had in recent years. Tony Romo has plenty of weapons in Dez Bryant, Jason Witten and a run game that should be one of the best in the NFL. Dallas hopes the run game will shine tonight behind their big offensive line.
The Cowboys are 6-3 all-time vs. Miami in the preseason. The last meeting was 2014 and the Dolphins won 25-20.
Dolphins vs Cowboys NFL Preseason Prediction: Under 40.5
It’s not clear whether Elliot will play but with Romo’s first start back, the Cowboys may let him air it out but they will be sure to ease the transition back with a steady dose of run. Miami’s offense has been a bit shaky and you can expect both defenses to play a bigger role in this game early on. Take the Under 40.5.
