Eagles vs Seahawks NFL Expert Pick – KingSportsPicks.com
Odds: Seahawks -6.5, 42.5
NFL Expert Pick by Peter Trell of KingSportsPicks.com
Rookie QB Carson Wentz and the Philadelphia Eagles travel to the Pacific Northwest to take on the NFC West leading Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks will be looking to build off of their statement win on the road over the New England Patriots, 31-24. Philadelphia will hope to cure their road woes (1-4 on the road) and stay within the playoff talk in the NFC.
Carson Wentz is one of the impressive players coming out of the 2016 NFL Draft. Wentz lead the Eagles to an impressive (3-0) start but injuries have taken a toll on this team. The offensive line is not the same without Lane Johnson and they have patched together a line to protect Wentz. DT Benny Logan is still questionable for this game and he is a key piece to the defensive line and stopping the run. The Eagles are holding opposing quarterbacks to 57.5 percent accuracy (second best in the NFL), an 81.1 passer rating (fifth best) and 222 passing yards per game (seventh best).
Overall, the Eagles defense ranks 6th in the NFL allowing 323 total yards and allowing 17.8 PPG. However, the rush defense ranks 16th in the NFL giving up 100 yards per game a 4.37 yards per carry. Another area of weakness for this Eagles defense is their secondary. The Eagles are prone to giving up big plays and opposing quarterbacks have successfully attacked their inexperienced/weak corners. You can be sure Russell Wilson and Doug Baldwin will be testing the waters Sunday afternoon.
Russell Wilson went for 348 yards and three touchdowns vs the Patriots last week and continues to show why he is one of the top QB’s in the NFL. Wilson is 52-20-1 since the Seahawks drafted him in the third round in 2012, and in NFL history only Tom Brady (53-19) has a better winning percentage after 73 games than Wilson. While Wilson has been dealing with a bum ankle, it appears to be healing and his ability to scramble will put a lot of pressure on this Eagles defense.
Seattle is (4-0) at home and seem to have some momentum after beating Buffalo and New England. Their defense ranks 9th overall but they haven’t been the dominate shut down defense we have been accustomed to watching in the past and they have now let up at least 24 points in three straight games.
Both these teams have had their struggles this year, and it’s hard telling which version of either squad we’ll be getting Sunday. However, the Eagles are 1-4 ATS their last 4 meetings and the favorite is 6-2 ATS their last 8 meetings. Seattle is 5-2 ATS their last 7 overall and the Eagles are 0-4 ATS their last 4 road games. Seattle is a very tough place to play for a rookie quarterback and if this defense is able to get after Wentz there could be a lot of 3 and outs. This is the time of year that Seattle begins to kick it in high gear and with their recent momentum will be able to cover this -6.5 point spread.
