Monday Night Football features the New York Jets vs the Arizona Cardinals and this is without a doubt a must win game for both teams. Carson Palmer is poised to return to the lineup and has been cleared from the league’s concussion protocol in time to face the Jets. New York looks to turn their season around with just one win in their first five games, scoring a total of 33 points during their current three game losing streak. Read below for my Jets vs Cardinals free pick and analysis.
New York is having a very tough time putting numbers up on the scoreboard. Part of the issue is their quarterback play with Ryan Fitzpatrick, who has 5 touchdowns to 10 interceptions. Fitzpatrick threw 9 interceptions over the course of two games vs the Chiefs and Seahawks. Losing wide receiver Eric Decker, who had 12 touchdown receptions in 2015, to season-ending shoulder surgery is another blow to the passing attack. The Jets have not been helped by a suspect running game as Matt Forte rushed for 100 yards and three touchdowns in their lone win at Buffalo in Week 2, but has been held to 80 yards in the past two weeks.
The Arizona Cardinals won 13 games a season ago, but have already lost their season total of losses from last year. On the season, Palmer has completed 58.8 percent of his passes for 1,150 yards with six TD’s and five picks over four games. The Cardinals rushing attacks is lead by David Johnson who ran for 157 yards and two touchdowns vs the 49ers in Week 5. Larry Fitzgerald remains the Cardinals top threat at wide receiver, catching 31 balls for 361 yards and 5 touchdowns.
Arizona has been pretty good defensively, allowing just 308 yards per game (8th) and 189.8 yards per game in the air (4th). Offensively, they are averaging 115 rushing yards per game (11th) and 248.2 passing yards per game (16th).
Jets vs Cardinals Monday Night Prediction: The Jets have been giving up the long pass and the Cardinals like to throw it deep, especially with Palmer under center. New York’s season is in jeopardy but with Eric Decker out the Cardinals secondary can focus on Brandon Marshall. Arizona’s rush defense is suspect but with no passing attack their offense will become one dimensional and they should be able to put a lot of pressure on Ryan Fitzpatrick. This game set ups perfectly for the Cardinals to get back to .500 and start to build momentum if they plan to compete in the AFC West. I look for this game to go Under 46 with both teams leaning on the rushing attack and controlling the clock. The Cardinals don’t want to make Palmer a sitting duck in the pocket which means they will feature a heavy dose of David Johnson.
