The NFC North takes centerstage in Week 9 as the Vikings host the Lions. The Minnesota Vikings are 5-2 this season but they have lost their last two games with both of those taking place on the road. The Vikings offense is sputtering averaging a 23rd ranked 19.9 points per game and a 31st ranked 293.3 yards per game but their plus 11 turnover ratio is what has been the difference maker. Vikings QB Sam Bradford has been efficient (8 TD’s, 1 INT) but his protection has been awful and the Vikings have been helpless on the ground without Adrian Peterson. Minnesota opened the season 5-0 SU and ATS behind the league’s top defense, but has since dropped two games in a row, scoring 10 points apiece in each of those losses.
Meanwhile, the Lions have climbed back into the NFC North race and their four losses have come by an average of 4.5 points per game. Matthew Stafford has been red hot throwing for 9 TD’s and 0 interceptions in the last four games with a passer rating of 103.4. The Lions defense is allowing 23.8 points and 370 yards per game with 4 interceptions, 7 fumble recoveries, and 18 sacks.
I know the Vikings defense is still intact, but there is no quarterback hotter than Stafford. The Vikings offense looks very suspect and with no run game to lean on it has become very difficult for the Vikings to score points. This should be a hard fought division game but the difference is the Lions offense. The Vikings have trended down while the Lions are trending up. Take the Lions and the points on the road.
