LSU vs Arkansas Weekend Football Prediction by Vincent King of King Sports Picks
The LSU vs Alabama matchup last weekend didn’t exactly live up to the hype as the defense determined the 10-0 outcome, favoring Alabama. LSU’s offense didn’t show up and were shutout and failed to cover the +7 point spread. It may not get any easier for the Tigers as they travel to Arkansas to take on the Razorbacks.
LSU’s defense showed up big time in their game vs Alabama holding the Tide to 323 yards, including 216 rushing yards on 51 carries. The biggest concern heading into this weekend’s game vs the Razorbacks is their defense was on the field for over 33 minutes in a hard fought game.
For LSU to be successful, they have to be able to run the football. They average 214.1 yards per game even after that poor production against the Crimson Tide. Leonard Fournette rushed for just 35 yards last weekend but since he’s been healthy he has averaged 7.1 yards per carry. We expect him to have a much better game vs the Arkansas defense.
Arkansas may have just played their best game of the season beating Florida 31-10 at home, covering the +3.5 point spread and going Under the total of 44. A key stat in the win was the Arkansas defense held Florida to just one 3rd down conversion out of 11 attempts. Running back Rawleigh Williams III had a big game against a strong defense with 148 yards and two TDs on 26 carries. Williams leads the Razorbacks with 955 yards rushing and eight TDs. Arkansas averages 422.2 yards per game on offense with 254.9 passing yards, while allowing 407.2 total yards per game and 198.4 rushing yards per game.
For LSU, the Alabama game is the biggest game of the year and a heated rivalry game. Emotions run high and everything is left on the field. This worries me about LSU heading into Arkansas, a very tough environment and a team that played very well vs Florida. LSU’s defense played a lot of snaps last weekend and you have to wonder how fresh they are heading into Saturday night’s game? The Razorbacks are now Bowl eligible and head coach Bret Bielema may have his team playing the best football of the season. Arkansas is 15-6 against the spread at home against a team with a winning road record and 4-0 against the spread in their last 4 games against LSU. LSU is 1-4 against the spread in their last 5 road games, 2-5 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the point spread. I’m taking Arkansas and the +7 points on their home turf.
