Will you be looking for something to watch, or bet, on Thanksgiving night? The Texas A&M Aggies and the LSU Tigers face off in a pivotal Thursday SEC college football matchup. Kick off is 7:30pm from Kyle Field.
LSU has been up and down this season and after a (2-2) start and a loss to Auburn, LSU fired long time head coach Les Miles. Defensive line coach Ed Orgeron took over for the Tigers and rattled off three straight wins, only to lose 10-0 to Alabama. Last weekend a loss to Florida gave the Tigers their 2nd loss in 3 games. Now they travel into Kyle Field for a Thanksgiving night game with bowl implications.
LSU averages 25.7 points and 406.1 yards per game, which ranks them 70th in the country. Tigers QB Danny Etling has completed 58.5 percent of his passes with 7 touchdowns and 4 interceptions but the offense averages only 174 YPG ranking them 109th in the country. This is a run first team, averaging 232 yards on the ground but Leonard Fournette has been in and out of the lineup the entire season. Fournette has rushed for over 100 yards in 4 games this season topping out at 284 yards vs Ole Miss. An ankle injury has forced the Heisman hopeful to see limited playing time and he will most likely not suit up for Thursday’s game vs the Aggies.
LSU relies on their defense which ranks 11th overall. The defensive unit allows just 14 PPG and 308 total yards per game. LSU’s defense held Alabama to 10 points but an unproductive offense prevented this team from beating their rival.
Texas A&M is without starting QB Trevor Knight, the former Oklahoma quarterback. Knight suffered a shoulder injury to end his regular season, however, there is an outside chance he returns for a bowl game. In Knight’s absence, Jake Hubenak has filled in nicely to date. Hubernak has thrown for 811 yards, 6 TD’s and 2 INT’s but the team has gone (1-2) since Knight went down.
The Texas A&M offense is averaging 35.1 points and 467.7 yards per game (mostly with Knight) and Trayveon Williams has been Texas A&M’s top rusher with 956 yards and 7 touchdowns.
The Aggies defense has been just mediocre, ranking 81st in total yards (428), 88th in passing yards (allowing 248 YPG) and 75th in rushing yards (allowing180 YPG).
Texas A&M is 0-4 against the spread in their last 4 home games, 8-22 against the spread in their last 30 SEC games, and 2-7 against the spread against a team with a winning record. LSU is 4-1 against the spread after allowing less than 20 points in their previous game, 4-1 against the spread after coring less than 20 points in their previous game, and 4-1 against the spread after allowing less than 170 yards passing in their previous game. The favorite is 5-0-1 against the spread in the last 6 meetings of these 2 teams.
I don’t see how the Tigers are favored by -5.5 points here and I am not sold which is why I am looking at the Total. The Under is 10-1-2 in Tigers last 13 games on grass and 9-1 in the Tigers last 10 games in November. The Under is also 7-1 in the Aggies last 8 games in November and 15-5-1 in their last 21 games overall.
