Oregon vs Cal Expert Prediction by: Johnny Pham, BetSheet.com
(2-4 SU, 0-5-1 ATS)
After starting the season at 2-0, Oregon has dropped 4 straight, 3 of which came against Pac 12 foes. Oregon can already forget about competing for a Pac 12 title, now it’s about gaining bowl eligibility.Oregon has 6 games remaining, with 4 coming on the road as they need to secure 4 wins to find themselves in a bowl game. The Ducks are coming off a BYE week after losing to Washington 70-21 the week prior. On the 1st of the month Oregon lost to Washington State 51-33 in a game they were favored by -2.5 points. Oregon has hit on 3 straight Total plays for bettors backing the Over.Oregon’s achilles heel is their defense which on average has given up 42 points per game and allowed 522 yards per game. It’s a very tall task for their offense to put up such big numbers to offset the amount of points they give up on defense. Friday night, the Ducks defense which ranks 125th overall will need to figure out a way to stop Cal.
California Golden Bears
(3-3 SU, 3-3 ATS)
California has dropped 2 of their last 3 games as they’ve conceded 51 and 47 points in both losses. Just like Oregon, their defensive struggles continue to plague this team. Cal fell short in a comeback attempt vs Oregon State losing 47-44 in their last game. Cal’s QB Davis Webb is having a monster season, already racking up 2256 yards in the air with a terrific 22:7 TD to INT ratio. The Golden Bears’ offense is very dangerous, now averaging 42.3 points per game, ranking them 12th in the Nation.California will rely heavily on their pass offense, that is averaging 377.8 yards per game but they also are able to run the ball effectively. The Golden Bears had one of their better rushing games of the season, tallying 317 rushing yards with Khalfani Muhammad leading the way with 165 yards off 21 carries vs Oregon State.
Oregon vs Cal Expert Prediction
Oregon is going with a freshman QB in Justin Herbert who only passed for 179 yards in his first start which means this Oregon offense might not be clicking on all cylinders. We already know the Ducks defense will have trouble stopping Cal from reaching the end zone but if the Ducks can’t match the Bears point for point they have no shot.
I like Cal with this small spread (-3) at home. Oregon has struggled in their last 4 games and has shown no signs of turning it around. It’s a different Oregon team than we are used to watching during the Chip Kelly era and immediately after his departure.
Davis Webb should be able to torch this Oregon defense and give his team the separation needed to get the win and cover the spread.
