Green Bay Packers (12-6) vs Atlanta Falcons (12-5)
The NFC Championship kicks off on Sunday at 3:05pm featuring two of the hottest teams and two of the hottest quarterbacks in the NFL. The Green Bay Packers will take to the road again, traveling South to Atlanta to take on the Falcons.
Aaron Rodgers and the Packers are coming off their biggest win of the season defeating the Cowboys on the road, 34-31. The Packers have relied heavily on their offense down the stretch, as Aaron Rodgers has 718 passing yards and six touchdowns in the first two playoff games and Green Bay has scored a combined 72 points. The Packers have now scored 30 or more points in six straight games and they’ve won nine of their last 10 games when scoring 30 points.
The Packers defense played well vs the Giants allowing only 13 points but almost spoiled a 15 point lead vs the Cowboys. Dallas’ offense was certainly more potent than New York, however, it’s area of concern when facing this high powered Falcons offense.
The Atlanta Falcons are still flying under the radar with the main stream media but expert handicappers know how good this team has played. Atlanta had a convincing win over the Seattle Seahawks last weekend, 36-20. The Falcons are also red hot offensively, scoring no less than 28 points in seven straight games, and they’ve gone 11-2 SU this season when reaching that mark. Matt Ryan has two or more touchdown passes in five straight games and is coming off a contest in which he completed 70.3 percent of his passes.
Atlanta’s defense is very similar to Green Bay’s with the exception of stopping the rush as Green Bay has been much better stuffing the run game. The Falcons defense took their game to another level last weekend vs the Seahawks: Russell Wilson was sacked three times, hit seven other times and was picked off twice. The Falcons D was able to keep the momentum on Atlanta’s side.
Over is 4-0 in Packers last 4 vs. a team with a winning record
Over is 6-0 in Packers last 6 vs. NFC
Over is 9-0 in Falcons last 9 home games
Over is 4-0 in Falcons last 4 vs. a team with a winning record
You rarely see a total north of 60 points in the NFL but this is an exception considering these two high octane offenses with soft defenses. I see this game being a classic Rodgers vs Ryan shootout in a close matchup. I like both of these offenses to get their points and with weather not a factor indoors you can expect to see some offense.
Packers vs Falcons NFC Championship Pick: OVER 60.5
