Rams vs 49ers Pick, Prediction & Odds – 9-12-2016 – NFL Football Handicappers
Line: 49ers +2.5, O/U 42
Kickoff: 10:20pm EST
The Rams may have drafted a quarterback with the #1 overall pick but this team is still going to be about defense and running the football. Jared Goff will not start the season opener as Jeff Fisher decided to promote veteran QB Case Keenum and allow Goff to take in the experience from the sidelines.
Los Angeles will try and win now with a solid defense and by running the football. RB Todd Gurley had a monster rookie year rushing for 1100 yards in just 12 starts.
If the Rams are going to be a surprise contender they need the defense to get back to what it was a couple of years ago. Aaron Donald is a force in the middle but the rest of the group was not making a lot of big plays. If the offense improves like they hope they may finally have the balance that leads to winning.
Drama just seems to surround Chip Kelly no matter where he coaches from Oregon to Philadelphia and now San Francisco. While Colin Kaepernick’s decision to sit during the National Anthem in a preseason game may not have been a Chip Kelly decision, his leadership has come into question once again. It does look like Kelly has decided on Blaine Gabbert as his quarterback and it appears to be the right decision. Kaepernick has not been the same QB since he signed his monster contract and the 49ers are stuck with a very expensive back up QB for now.
San Francisco lacks offensive weapons and we’ll see how Chip Kelly’s offense transpires to the field in San Fran. They drafted former Oregon Duck DeForest Buckner with their top pick and he has been slotted in the lineup right away. Chip Kelly has a knack for drafting players out of Oregon but Buckner is an imposing figure at 6’7″ 290lbs and could progress into a force on the defensive line.
Rams are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 Monday games.
49ers are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games in Week 1.
49ers are 10-1 ATS in their last 11 Monday games.
