Saturday’s Top Bet: Royals vs Rangers Free Prediction, 7-30-2016
Kansas City Royals (49-53) vs Texas Rangers (60-44)
The Royals may not have a chance to defend their World Series championship if they remain close to a .500 ball club. They may become sellers at the trade deadline and not buyers.
On the other side of the field are the Texas Rangers. The Rangers will most likely be buyers at the deadline and could use depth at starting pitching and some extra pop in the lineup.
Kansas City dropped games 1 and 2 of this four game series. Tonight, Ian Kennedy gets the nod and he makes his 21st start of the season. He comes into this ball game with a 6-9 record and 4.41 ERA. Kennedy is making his 4th start in his career vs the Royals. He is 0-2 with a 5.82 ERA and a 1.471 WHIP over 17 innings of work.
The Royals have had to deal with a handful of injuries and an overhaul from last year’s World Series winning team and all of that has taken its toll on their team.
Texas is trying to weather the storm of injuries. Prince Fielder is done for the year after needing a second neck surgery while Shin-soo Choo is on the shelf again. Their lead in the AL West has dwindled to 4 games but we fully expect the Rangers to make some moves before the deadline to bolster their starting pitching and improve their lineup with some extra bats.
Martin Perez makes his 22nd start of the year for the Rangers tonight. He’s 7-7 with a 4.38 ERA and a 1.468 WHIP over 125.1 innings of work so far this season. Perez is winless in his last five starts as he took a no-decision against the A’s Monday.
The Royals are 0-6 in Kennedy’s last six road starts, 1-5 in their last six overall, and 7-19 in their last 26 road games.
The Rangers are 20-8 in their last 28 Saturday games, 7-15 in their last 22 overall, and 6-0 in Perez’ last six home starts.
Despite all the injuries, the Rangers have the best record in the AL and are a tough team to play at home. Kennedy gives up too many home runs and baserunners when he’s on the mound. He works himself into too many jams and pitches from behind too often.
The Rangers are at home, which works in their favor and we like Texas gets the win here.
