It’s a great day for giving thanks, spending time with family and friends and, of course, watching sports. One of these matchups features the Seton Hall Pirates taking on the Florida Gators in a first round matchup of the AdvoCare Invitational in Orlando on Thanksgiving Day.

Seton Hall remained unbeaten after downing Iowa 91-83 on the road last Thursday. Florida kept their perfect record intact by downing Belmont 78-61 Monday night.

Seton Hall has now had a full week off since their last game vs Iowa.  The Pirates outscored the Hawkeyes 49-39 in the 2nd half to pull out a big road victory.  Seton Hall shot 50.8 percent from the floor as a team and knocked down 8 of 17 three point attempts. The Pirates forced 17 Iowa turnovers which were one of the keys to this win.

Seton Hall has four players averaging double digits, PG Khadeen Carrington (21.7), F Desi Rodriguez (16.3), PG Myles Powell (15.3) and F Angel Delgado (15.0).  As a team, Seton Hall is scoring 88 points per game on 54.2% from the field, the 8th-best field goal percentage in the country, with the 27th-best 3-point percentage at 41.8%. However, the Pirates desperately need to improve is their free throw shooting which ranks 5th worst in D1 NCAAB shooting just 56.6%.  Down the stretch, this stat will need to improve to win the close games.

The Florida Gators improved to 4-0 with a 78-61 win over the Belmont Bruins. The Gators limited the Bruins to 39.2 percent from the field, including 7 of 27 from three point range, and forced 21 turnovers in the game. Canyon Barry (son or HOF Rick Barry) led the way for Florida in the win with 17 points off the bench.  Barry leads the team with 13.3 points plus 4.3 rebounds per game.

The key component to the Gators starting the season has been their defensive efforts conceding just 60 PPG which ranks them 32nd in the country.

Some areas of concern for Florida has been their scoring average of 76.8 PPG which ranks them 147th in the country and they average just 11.8 assists per game which ranks them 268th in the country.  Neither team has a significant edge in rebounding but this could be a stat to watch in this matchup.

Seton Hall is rested and is coming off an impressive road victory over a good Iowa program. Florida has been unbeaten but their best win is over St. Bonaventure and that was by single digits. The Pirates have been shooting the ball extremely well, which is something you can’t say about the Gators season to date.

I like the Seton Hall Pirates in a SU win so giving me +2 points is just a gift.

Seton Hall vs Florida College Basketball Prediction: Seton Hall +2
