The Stanford Cardinals travel to Seattle to take on the Washington Huskies in our Pac 12 Game of the Week.
Stanford is ranked #7 heading into this matchup and Washington is ranked 10th.
The Cardinals survived a tough road test last week defeating UCLA 22-13 by scoring the go ahead touchdown with 30 seconds left in the game. Stanford trailed most of the game but fought back to defeat their rivals.
Stanford is lead by All American and Heisman Trophy candidate, Christian McCaffrey. After rushing for over 2,000 yards last season, the junior running back is having a tremendous season through three games, rushing for a total of 436 yards with three touchdowns.
Stanford hasn’t exactly put up the points like seasons past and average around 25 PPG which ranks them 96th in the nation. As we have come to expect with Stanford football, their defense is once again the rock of this team. Stanford features a terrific defensive unit, conceding only an average of 12 points per game, good for 8th in the Country.
Washington has been a nice surprise so far this season and are currently (4-0 SU, 2-2 ATS). Washington’s sophomore QB Jake Browning has put up monster numbers throwing for over 900 yards, 14 touchdowns to 2 interceptions.
The Huskies escaped the Arizona Wildcats last weekend to win in OT, 35-28. The score indicates a closer game than it should have been were it not for three missed FG’s.
The Washington offense faced three easy opponents in their first three games and as a result are averaging 45.8 points per game, placing them 10th in the Nation.
The Huskies defense has been solid through four games, conceding an average of 14.5 points per game, good for 15th overall. However, they had some trouble stopping the run vs Arizona and allowed the Wildcats QB Brandon Dawkins to rush for an astounding 176 yards and two touchdowns. As a team, Arizona rushed for a total of 308 yards. This unit will need to tighten up their run defense with the most electrifying rusher in college football coming to town.
Stanford vs Washington Pac 12 Pick & Prediction
Stanford Cardinals Trends
- 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road games
- 6-1 ATS in their last 6 road games against a team with a winning home record
- 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games after conceding less than 20 points in their previous game
Washington Huskies Trends
- 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games after allowing more than 200 rushing yards in their previous game
2-6 ATS in their last 8 home games against a team with a winning road record
Sharp money is on the Stanford Cardinals +3 in this matchup. I didn’t like what I saw with the Washington run defense and the fact they have played a relatively easy non-conference schedule so far has not prepared them for Christian McCaffrey. Stanford, on the other hand, has wins over Kansas State, USC and UCLA. USC and UCLA are both Pac 12 rivals that are always hard fought games. This early season experience is exactly what will propel the Cardinals to victory on Friday night.
