Game Preview, Spread Prediction and Odds
NFL Odds: Chiefs -1.5, 44.5
Steelers fans in Pittsburgh have worn out their Terrible Towels. Pittsburgh has won 8 straight games heading into this weekend’s matchup vs the Chiefs.
Pittsburgh steamrolled Miami in the AFC Wild Card round, 30-12. Steelers were heavy home favorites (-12) and they had no issues covering the spread. The Steelers have gone 6-1-1 against the spread during their sizzling run, which includes four-straight road victories.
Pittsburgh was a long shot to make the playoffs after starting the season (4-5). A four game losing streak lead to an 8 game winning streak and a shot at the Chiefs for a spot in the AFC Championship.
The Steelers were holding their breath after their victory over Miami as Big Ben was seen walking in a boot after injuring his foot. Roethlisberger says he will be ready to go on Sunday and we don’t doubt him.
Pittsburgh’s defense has quietly gotten better as the regular season went on. They finished 11th in the league against the pass and 12th against the run, and came up huge this past Sunday by forcing three-consecutive Dolphins turnovers in the first half. In addition, they racked up four sacks, and limited Miami running back Jay Ajayi to just 33 rushing yard on 16 carries.
Steelers Betting Trends
- Steelers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road games
- Steelers are 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 Divisional Playoffs games
- Steelers are 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 games overall
- Steelers are 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 games following a straight up win
Kansas City Chiefs
Oddsmakers opened the Kansas City Chiefs as +2.5 point home underdog. Action quickly tilted in the Chiefs favor and they currently sit as -1.5 favorites.
Andy Reid was hired in Kansas City to get them over the playoff hump, something he was not able to do in Philadelphia. However, Big Red won his first AFC West regular season title this season and has gone (43-21) since arriving in KC. The Chiefs have won their last two games against the spread but are just (3-5 ATS) at home this season.
Although the Chiefs’ offense still looks the same like in seasons past with Alex Smith under center, they have some weapons on offense. Rookie WR Tyreek Hill caught 6 touchdown passes on the season and he complimented one of the top tight ends in the NFL, Travis Kelce. Kelce had only 4 touchdowns on the season but he had 1125 receiving yards and is one of the best blocking tight ends in the game.
The Chiefs are still the Chiefs and they will need to win with their defense. KC has two of the best defensive backs in the league, Eric Berry and Marcus Peters. We’ll see some fantastic matchups defending Antonio Brown in the secondary

Is Big Ben’s foot OK? Can Andy Reid get this Chiefs team to the AFC Championship and over the hump? The Chiefs have won 10 of their last 12 games since losing to Pittsburgh 43-14 back in early October. Both teams have momentum but Andy Reid has a 16-2 record coming off a bye. In the postseason, Reid is actually undefeated (3-0) when he coaches in a divisional round game coming off a bye. Arrowhead Stadium can be a tough place to play and the environment is electric.
Big Ben’s injury may be good for the Steelers. In Roethlisberger’s 18 career postseason games, the Steelers are 7-0 when he throws for 225 or FEWER yards. When he goes above that number the Steelers are just 5-6. This is an interesting stat but the Steelers defense isn’t as good as it has been in the past despite their performance vs the Dolphins.
It’s tough to pick against the Chiefs in this game at home off of rest but Le’Veon Bell gives the Steelers the edge vs a mediocre Chiefs rush defense. The Chiefs are without star LB Derrick Johnson which doesn’t help matters. Kansas City allows over 120 rushing yards per game and Bell will have a field day. Take the Steelers on the road as underdogs to cover the spread.
