Steelers vs Redskins Monday Night Football Pick provided by CashinTickets.com
The Washington Redskins were one of the surprise teams in the NFL last season at 9-7 winning the NFC East. QB Kurt Cousins came on strong and lead the Redskins to the playoffs. The NFC East will once again be up for grabs and the Redskins think they have the team to win back-to-back NFC East titles. The Redskins open with one of the favorites to win the AFC in the Pittsburgh Steelers. Pittsburgh has one of the most explosive offenses in the league but ironically, a team that consistently had one of the top defenses, are a big question mark in the secondary. Pittsburgh travels to Washington, DC and we have a Steelers vs Redskins Monday Night Football pick below.
Pittsburgh will play without Le’Veon Bell and Martavis Bryant tonight in Washington. Bell is suspended 3 games for a failed drug test and Bryant is suspended for the entire season. Ben Roethlisberger is more than capable of finding other targets outside of Antonio Brown. Young wide receivers Sammie Coates and Markus Wheaton will have to step up in Martavis Bryant’s absence. Antonio Bryant has 265 catches over the past 2 seasons and he will undoubtedly be one of the top receivers in the league.
Defensively, the Steelers allowed just 19.9 points per game under new defensive coordinator Keith Butler. Linebacker Ryan Shazier is going to be a star, but the secondary could ultimately be their downfall. The Steelers finished the 2015 season ranked 22nd in total yards allowed and 11th in scoring defense. This young defense will be good but they may need some more time to come together with experience.
Washington could be one of the most explosive teams in the NFC on offense, at least in the passing game. While Kirk Cousins isn’t Ben Roethlisberger, the young quarterback has some of the best offensive skill position players in the NFC. Whether is TE Jordan Reed (87 passes for 952 yards and 11 TDs), WR DeSean Jackson, Pierre Garcon or Jamison Crowder, Cousins has plenty of options in this Redskins offense. Washington did suffer a loss in the running game as Alfred Morris signed with Dallas in the off season.
Defensively, Washington was pretty good last season but the addition of cornerback Josh Norman could put them over the top. While Norman should help the pass defense, the run defense is still an issue. The Skins allowed 4.83 yards per carry last season, which ranked 31st in the league. We still have questions regarding Josh Norman and whether he was just a beneficiary of a great defensive unit in Carolina? There have been plenty of examples of this in recent years from Nnamdi Asomugha to Byron Maxwell and only time will tell.
Pittsburgh and Washington will lean on their quarterback’s arms and the passing game. Plenty of offensive weapons between both teams give me the confidence to lean on the Over. I am not sold on either of these defenses and both teams need to air the ball out to put up points and win this game.
