Damian Lillard and the Portland Trail Blazers hit the road and head to Chicago to take on the Bulls. Portland is (4-6 SU) on the road this season compared to (7-4 SU) at home. Portland is one of the top scoring teams in the NBA lead by Damian Lillard. The Trail Blazers average 110.2 PPG but they allow 112.5 PPG. The problem hasn’t been putting the ball in the bucket, it’s been defending the bucket.
Lillard (27.8 PPG) and C.J. McCollum (21.9 PPG) make up a nice back court guard combination leading the team in points. However, this team needs to score at an impressive rate night after night to make up for their lack of defensive effort. Portland allows 36.6% beyond the arc and grab only 45 defensive rebounds per game. Both of these stats, especially rebounding, are effort stats and they must get better on the defensive side of the court if they expect to compete in the West.
Chicago has won 6 of 10 and after scoring an impressive win over the defending champion Cavaliers, they turned around the next day and were blown out by the Mavericks. Clearly they had more invested in beating Cleveland and left it all out on the court. The Chicago Bulls are averaging 103.6 points on 44.1 percent shooting and allowing 99.6 points on 44.4 percent shooting. Jimmy Butler is averaging 25.6 points and 6.6 rebounds while Dwyane Wade is averaging 19.1 points and 3.1 assists. Taj Gibson is the third double-digit scorer putting up 12.3 PPG.
The Trail Blazers are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games and 4-10 ATS in their last 14 games overall. The Bulls are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 home games and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games overall.
Chicago certainly puts more pressure on opposing teams on defense than the Trail Blazers which will be pivotal in the 4th quarter. The Portland Trail Blazers aren’t nearly as good on the road as they are at home, and they were beat up by the Bulls a few weeks ago on November 15th with Chicago earning the 113-88 road victory as a +3 point betting underdog.
I’m taking the Bulls -5.5 at home tonight since it’s hard to trust this Portland team on the road. Two days will serve this Bulls team well as they cash as home favorites.
