ATS Expert, Frank Delgotto provides a researched MLB prediction on the Washington Nationals vs LA Dodgers
If you love pitching duels, then you better get ready for one between Stephen Strasburg and Clayton Kershaw. Both are set to go on the mound tonight, when the Washington Nationals and Los Angeles Dodgers open up a three-game series at Dodger Stadium.
Washington is looking for a bounce back performance tonight with their ace on the mound after splitting the 4 game series with San Diego but losing the last two. Strasburg is coming off a big win last Wednesday vs the Cubs in which he pitched 7 innings of one-run ball and struck out a total of eight batters to lead the Nats to the thrilling 5-4 win.
The Nationals offensively rely on Bryce Harper and Daniel Murphy and both have been delivering at the plate. Earlier in the season, Harper had an impressive stretch in which it seemed as if every plate appearance resulted in a home run but he has since cooled off. Harper leads the team with 14 home runs. Daniel Murphy has really helped this offense and leads the team with a .358 batting average, .595 slugging %, 92 hits, 19 2B, 3 triples and 46 RBI’s. Murphy is an early contender for MVP, an honor which Harper took home in 2015.
All is well right now with the Los Angeles Dodgers, who have won five of their last six games and are winners of their previous three. The Dodgers give themselves a good chance at making it four straight with their ace, Clayton Kershaw, on the mound. Dominant would be the best word to describe Kershaw’s season thus far. He leads the majors in strikeouts (133) and the three-time NL Cy Young Award winner has given up just two runs or fewer in his past nine starts. Kershaw also has four shutout performances against the Padres, Mets, Reds and Braves.
Corey Seager is leading the Dodgers in batting (.280), homers (15), runs batted in (36), OBP (.351) and hits (77). The 22-year-old shortstop, however, has yet to face the Nats and their starter in Stephen Strasburg.
- Under is 4-0 in Kershaws last 4 home starts vs. Nationals.
- Under is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.
- Under is 5-2 in Kershaws last 7 starts vs. Nationals.
Take the Under 5.5 in this matchup and expect the two aces to dual it out in a tightly contested game.
